3 Wheeled Buggies
A 3-wheel buggy is perfect for off-road walking & dealing with terrain from bumpy pavements to woodland tracks. They are also easier to manoeuvre up and down kerbs than models with four wheels.
Kath who is the editor of MadeForMums reviews, tried one of these 3-wheelers on tarmac as well as on various terrains. Check out her review here.
Stability
Four-wheel buggies with their centre of gravity balancing by the weight of your child in the seat, are typically more stable than three-wheelers. But that doesn’t mean that the three-wheel buggie isn’t worth considering, as the majority of them are built to handle anything from rough terrain to busy high streets.
For a buggy that’s easy to control and will not fall over on bumpy roads, look for a model with large rear wheels and a lockable front wheel. These buggies are typically equipped with pneumatic tyres, too. They are ideal for handling non-paved surfaces and can even be used on sandy beaches or tracks in woodland.
They’re also great buggies to jog with because they provide great stability on rougher terrain and help you stay with your running companion. They are also great for climbing and descending steep kerbs as well, and most of them have a built-in suspension that means your baby will be able to ride comfortably.
A stroller with 3 wheels isn’t easy to maneuver due to its wide frame. It can be more difficult to get through narrow spaces and doorways than a 4-wheeler. However some manufacturers have solved this issue with clever design that lets the wheels fold upwards when not in use, which reduces their overall size and allows you get through doors without difficulty.
If yes, look for a lie-flat position and also whether the design is compatible with second seating and buggy boards (if you’d like to add the toddler). If so, check for the ability to lie flat and if the design is compatible with second-seats and buggy boards (if you want to add the toddler to the buggy). A majority of 3-wheelers can fold flat and be put up in a upright position. This is a great option if you only have limited space in your boot or a small amount of storage space at home. Some 3-wheelers require you remove the front wheel in order to fold them into smaller sizes.
Manoeuvrability
Three-wheeled buggies usually provide better maneuverability than pushchairs with four wheels. They often come with a swivelling front wheel which allows you to shift direction quickly and steer with just one hand. Some models also come with a lockable front wheels that can provide stability on rougher terrain. Some models can be used with an additional seat or buggy board, if you plan to expand your family.
If you are planning to take your three-wheeled buggies off the roads that are paved then you should opt for an option that has pneumatic tyres. They are able to handle the most difficult terrain. These tyres may require regular pumping but they’ll be more durable than tyres that are solid and more likely to be puncture-proof. It is recommended to choose models with an adjustable front wheel that can be locked to assist you in navigating tricky surfaces.
A single front wheel could mean that three-wheelers tend to be more bulkier than buggies with four wheels when folded. Check that the model you select fits in your car’s boot and can be placed in a straight line if needed. Some models can be folded by one hand and can be raised when folded. This can save space in a small car boot.
A quality three-wheel pushchair will take on any terrain from busy roads to forest tracks. It is important to consider how you will use it every day. If you’ll be doing the school run using it, it should be able to handle the kerbs and steep slopes. If you’ll be jogging with it, check that it has an adjustable lockable swivelling’stretch’ for the front wheel to ensure that the ride is safe.
Kath who is an MFM reviewer, found that her stroller on three wheels was able to handle both urban and walks in the countryside. Kath noted that it was able to negotiate rocky paths, cobbles and bumpy pavements easily and felt pleasant when running. It’s also a great option for day trips because it offers plenty of storage space. It comes with a large, spacious, zip-top covered basket as well as an expandable 50+ UV hood. It is also able to be adapted to accommodate babies from birth using an adjustable seat that can be sat on or a carry cot, as well as being compatible with the majority of popular second seats and buggy boards.
Fabric Sling Seat
The main difference between a fabric sling versus a modular seats is that the fabric sling is placed snugly inside the buggy frame as opposed to sitting on top as a modular seat would. This allows for a more comfortable and ergonomically-correct position for the baby, which results in a lower center of gravity, which is the ideal height. This leads to a smoother push, a more light curb-pop (you do not have to exert as much effort and weight to lift the buggy off the curb) and improved balance and stability.
These seats also come with sling fabrics that are easy to clean and durable. Developed specifically with sling chair applications in mind they are UV-resistant and air-tight. They are also easy to maintain with mild soap and warm water.
If you’re a jogger or like to do some off-roading, an all terrain 3 wheeler will be more your bag than a buggy with four wheels. These types have a bigger base, are more stable and use air-filled tyres to provide smooth, easy mobility over rough terrain.
A brand most well-known for its car seats, Maxi-Cosi has recently added the latest 3-wheeler to its range with the Stella. This all-terrain buggy boasts an impressive, spacious and impressively growing seat that can be used as a world facing or parent face and reclines flat with an upgraded 5-point safety harness. It can be used with a car seat or carrycot from birth and has a large shopping basket.
Designed for the most discerning buggy owners this luxury 3 wheeler is as beautiful to behold as it is enjoyable to use. The sleek frame is finished in a stunning pewter black with touches of silver-burnished aluminium all over making it a complete WOW factor. 3 wheel buggy is a great option for parents who are active. It has a large, padded seat which can be set either parent or world facing. It also has an improved 5-point harness and a complete set of rain covers.
Modular Seat
Modular seating can be set up in many ways to meet a variety of seating requirements. Modular seating can be easily adjusted to create a relaxing place to watch films, or an open layout for entertaining guests. Many modular seating systems come with removable cushions making it simple to clean up spills or stain.
Modular Seating is available in different styles to match existing decor or as an accent piece. A broad range of color, fabric, and shape options means that you can choose an alternative seating option that fits your taste. Modular seating also has various functional features, including hidden storage compartments that make it easy to organization.
3-wheel buggies are ideal for off-road and all terrain adventures because they offer more stability than 4-wheel strollers. The large front wheel that is extremely maneuverable allows for smooth and agile movement. The tyres that are typically air-filled and have suspension, offer a comfortable ride even on the roughest trails and roads. The wheels aren’t as close to the ground on these pushchairs as they would be on four wheeled pushchairs. This makes them great for walking uphill.
Often, 3-wheel prams are a popular choice for parents who enjoy running and jogging with their children, as they provide excellent agility and are more streamlined than their 4 wheel counterparts. The GB Upp XL, for instance, features a sleek, burnished aluminum frame with a fast, one-handed fold and rear-facing and forward-facing seats. The Babyzen Yoyo, on the other hand, features an all-black frame that comes with a carrycot that can be positioned in a full lying position and has air-filled tyres.
Another fantastic all-terrain option is the lightweight, highly manoeuvrable and amazingly stylish Mountain Buggy Sport verso. This buggy will last you from birth, with the carrycot, and will last until toddlerhood with the modular seat. All of this is done in the footprint of a single buggy.
The latest model, duet(tm), is a side-by-side buggy that’s compact enough for urban use yet large on innovation and control. It has a unique seat made of fabric that is positioned in the frame with a perfect fit at the perfect height for weight distribution. This allows for easy kerb jumping and navigating neighborhoods and cities.
