3 Wheeled Buggies
A 3-wheeler is ideal for off-roading and taking on terrains that is bumpy, like woodland tracks. They are also easier to maneuver around kerbs than 4-wheel models.
MadeForMums reviews editor Kath tried one of these three-wheelers while with her newborn and three year old daughter, putting it through its paces on the asphalt and on the muddy ground. Read her review here.
Stability
Four-wheel buggies, which have their centre of gravity balanced by your child’s weight within the seat, are typically more stable than three-wheelers. But that doesn’t mean that a three-wheel buggy isn’t worth considering, as the majority of these models are made to withstand anything from rough terrain to bustling high streets.
Look for a buggy with large rear wheels and an lockable wheel on the front. This makes it more comfortable to drive and less likely to fall apart on bumpy roads. These buggies are typically equipped with pneumatic tyres as well, which are ideal for handling uneven surfaces and can be used on sandy beaches or woodland tracks.
3 wheeler pushchair are also great buggies to jog with as they provide excellent stability on more rough terrain and can help you stay with your running partner. They are also great for climbing and down steep kerbs, and most of them come with suspension built-in which means your child will have a pleasant ride.
The one thing that makes a 3-wheeled pushchair tricky to manoeuvre is the wide frame, which can make it harder to fit into narrow spaces and tight doorways than a 4-wheeler. Some manufacturers have solved this problem with clever design that flips the wheels upwards when they are not being used. This reduces their dimensions and makes it easier to fit through doorways.
If yes, make sure to check for a lie-flat positioning and whether the design is compatible with second seating and buggy boards (if you plan to bring an infant onboard). Find out if the buggy comes with the ability to lie flat, and if it’s compatible with a second seat and buggy boards if you plan to take your toddler along. Many 3-wheelers can fold flat, and later be placed upright. This is a good option if you only have limited space in your boot or a small amount of storage space at home. Some 3-wheelers require you remove the front wheel in order to fold them into smaller sizes.
Manoeuvrability
Three-wheeled buggies usually offer better manoeuvrability than pushchairs with four wheels. They often have a swivelling front wheel that lets you shift direction quickly and steer using just one hand. Some also come with a lockable front wheels which can give you the stability you need on rough terrain. Certain models can be used with an additional seat or buggy board in case you want to expand your family.
If you plan to take your three-wheeled buggies off the paved roads it is recommended to choose an option with pneumatic tyres. They can handle even the most difficult terrain. These tyres may require periodic pumping, but will be much more durable than solid tyres and are more likely to be puncture-proof. Find a model with a the ability to lock the swivelling wheel on the front to assist you in maneuvering difficult surfaces.
Having a single front wheel may also be a reason that three-wheelers tend to be bulkier than four-wheeled buggies when folded. Check that the model you choose fits in your car’s boot and can be placed upright if required. Certain models can fold with one hand and are freestanding when collapsed. This will save space in smaller car boots.
A good three-wheel pushchair can be used on all terrains, from busy streets to forest tracks. It is important to consider what you’ll be using it for every day. If you’ll be doing the school run, it ought to be able to cope with steep slopes and kerbs. If you’re planning to run on it, ensure it has a swivelling’stretch front wheel’ that can be locked. This will keep the ride stable.
MFM reviewer Kath found her tri-wheeled buggy was able to handle well with rural and urban walks. She said that it navigated cobbles, rocky paths and uneven pavements with ease and was comfortable to jog with. It’s also a great choice for day trips, as it comes with plenty of storage space, including a large ample basket with a zip-top cover and an extendable 50+ UV hood. It can be adapted to fit a baby’s needs from birth, with an infant carry cot or a lie-flat seat. It’s also compatible with the most well-known second-seats and stroller boards.
Fabric Sling Seat
The primary difference between a fabric and a modular one is the fabric sling. It sits inside the frame of the buggy instead of being placed on top like the modular chair. This enables a much more ergonomically appropriate position for baby and instantly provides lower center of gravity and a more appropriate height. This leads to a more comfortable push, a less hefty curb-pop (you don’t need to exert the same effort and weight to lift the buggy off the curb) and improved balance and stability.
These buggy seats also feature sling fabrics that are easy to clean and durable. These fabrics were designed specifically for Sling chairs and are highly UV resistant and ventilated. They also have a great anti-aging capability and are easy to clean using mild soap and water.
If you’re a jogger, or enjoy a bit of off-roading, a all terrain 3 wheeler will be more your bag than a 4-wheeler. These models are generally larger, more stable base and utilise air filled tyres to ensure smooth, easy moving over rough terrain.
Maxi-Cosi, a name that is well-known for its car seat range, has added a new 3-wheeler with the Stella to its range of products. The all-terrain buggy has a large, spacious and impressively growing travel system seat unit that can be a world-facing or parent facing and reclines flat with an upgraded 5-point safety harness. It can be used from birth with a carrycot or car seat and comes with a reasonably sized shopping basket and hood with zip pockets and a quick one-hand fold.
This luxurious 3 wheeler is designed for the most discerning buggy owner is as gorgeous to see as it is to use. The sleek frame features stunning pewter finishes with touches of burnished aluminum. It’s a true show-stopper. A big, padded seat that can be world or parent-facing, with a more secure 5-point safety harness as well as an entire set of rain covers makes this a great choice for active parents.
Modular Seat
Modular seating can be set up in many ways to meet different seating requirements. If you want a cozy setting for watching movies or a larger configuration for entertaining guests, modular seating is able to be adjusted easily. Many modular seating systems come with removable cushions, making it easy to clean up spills and stain.
Modular Seating can be designed to blend with the existing decor or stand out as an accent piece. You can choose from a wide variety of colors, fabrics, and shapes to design an elegant and modular seating design that fits your style. There are many functional features offered in modular seating, such as hidden storage compartments that allow for an easy organization and cleaning of living spaces.
3-wheel buggies are especially suitable for off-road or all terrain adventures because they offer more stability than 4-wheel strollers. The large, extremely maneuverable front wheel allows for agile and smooth motion, while the tyres are generally air filled and have suspension, providing an excellent ride on even the most difficult roads and trails. They’re also great for walking up hills since the wheels aren’t as close to the ground as they are on four wheel pushchairs.
Often 3-wheel prams are a favourite for parents who enjoy running and jogging with their child because they offer superior agility and are more streamlined than their 4-wheel counterparts. The GB Upp XL for example is a sleek and polished aluminum frame, which has an easy fold that can be folded in one hand and rear and forward facing seats. The Babyzen Yoyo has an all black frame, a carrycot with the ability to lie flat in full with air-filled tyres as well as 3 recline positions.
Another fantastic all-terrain option is the incredibly light, extremely maneuverable and amazingly stylish Mountain Buggy Sport verso. The buggy will last from birth, with the carrycot included, to toddlerhood with the adjustable seat. It all fits within the footprint of a single buggy.
