Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting

Volvo drivers are enthralled by the remote control capabilities of their key fob. With a smartphone app they can lock and unlock the car as well as start the engine and even locate it.

Put the key fob face up on an uncluttered surface. Find the button to let it go. Put a coin between the cover of the fob and the fob, and gently pull it up.

Locking the Doors

Volvo’s remote key fobs can unlock the doors, tailgate and flap for filling up the fuel in your vehicle with a press of one button. Remote key fobs can also turn on the ignition, and also activate the alarm. They can even operate the sunroof if it is equipped. You’ll never again have to search for your keys, or be locked out of your vehicle.

If you have a new Volvo model that we have in our dealership, you might be unfamiliar with some of its key fob hidden features. You can make use of the manual lock/unlock feature in case your key fob battery fails.

To unlock the manual lock or unlock button to unlock your key fob, place it with the Volvo logo facing upwards. Find the black button close to the edge of your key fob and gently press it. This will open a protective cover that is a cover for the key blade that is manual. The cover can be flipped clockwise using a flathead, or coin.

Starting the Engine

Modern Volvo key fobs offer the convenience and function that is unmatched by traditional manual keys. However, like any battery-operated electronic device, a key fob can lose its charge or stop functioning over time. If you notice that your key fob is less responsive when you press the lock or unlock button, it may be time to replace its battery.

You can enable this feature by using the key fob if your car has a dealer-installed Engine Remote Start. The car will heat or cool at the same temperature it was set to while it was parked. It will last for up to 15 mins.

Remove the cover on the back of the key fob using your fingernail. The button should be underneath the cover on an angle that is near the edge of the body. Slide it down and to the right. The cover will fall off and slide away to reveal the manual blade! If you are still unable to locate the button, look around the newly revealed manual key access to see whether there is a hidden slot or lever.

Close the Windows

Volvo key fobs feature an unnoticed feature that allows users to instantly lower all windows. This is a great feature when you are trying to squeeze into tight parking spaces or just need some fresh air while driving.

Press and hold the unlock button on your Volvo remote control for four seconds. This will lower the windows as well as the sunroof if you have one. When you’re finished with the vehicle, you can shut all windows by pressing the lock key again for four seconds.

You can also use the key fob to trigger your car’s panic alarm. This will produce a loud noise that will draw attention and deter thieves. It also helps you return home safely even if you’ve been out for the night. This feature is helpful if you live in a dangerous area or want to protect your family while away from home.

Opening the Tailgate

The key fob of Volvo is loaded with a variety of useful features. These are perfect when you’re juggling grocery shopping or helping your kids pack their sports gear following practice.

For example, if you have the Hands-Free Power Liftgate with logo projection and programmable height (if equipped), you can open it using the key fob. You can open the liftgate by pressing the button and then close it by pressing the same button.

Use the key fob when you are ready to start your vehicle. (Don’t be worried if your battery dies or if your vehicle isn’t starting because it also has a mechanical key slot). This is only one of the many tricks you can use to use with your new Volvo.

Turning off the Alarm

Modern key fobs are more useful than a traditional car key. However, volvo key fob don’t work perfectly for long, and their batteries eventually fail. If you’re in a hurry, or don’t want to go to an establishment to get your key fob reset, you can try to get it to work at home.

Find a clean surface and lay out your key fob, battery and extra keys. Set the key fob with the Volvo logo facing up and then locate a tiny black button on the left side of the fob and slide it downwards and to the right. The cover should come loose and fall off, revealing the mechanical key blade underneath.

The key fob’s unlock button two times quickly, and you should be able open all of the doors and the tailgate. By pressing the lock button for 2 seconds, you will be able to close the windows and shut the sunroof if they are equipped. Reconnect the battery and the alarm will stop. If it doesn’t, then the owner’s manual should include a method to reset the alarm.
