UPVC Replacement Door Handles
Over time the handles on your doors will wear out and need to be changed. It is crucial to keep the same dimensions as the old handles when replacing them.
The three measurements to be inspected are the top screw’s position the lever and key hole dimensions. Use the size guide to assist you.
Inline Lever/Lever
A lever/lever handle is a modern-day door handle designed to work with new or replacement doors. This kind door handle is offered in a variety of designs and finishes. This handle is offered by a number of manufacturers including Avocet ERA Fullex Hoppe Mila Millenco Yale.
Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle
The uPVC/Composite handles are made from robust materials, and are ideal for doors with multiple points that need a heavy-duty design. The handles are inline and they use the same spindle and screws to secure them. They can be easily mounted on any uPVC/Composite door.
The spring lever design allows the handle to be set and angled to provide a comfortable grip and is suitable for all users. The handle has been tested to 200,000 cycles, this will ensure the quality of the finish as well as the performance of the handle over time. The sprung lever can also be reduced to accommodate a wider range of locks. This is particularly useful for doors with narrower openings where the cylinder is situated further back in the door. A lever that is shorter can be used on doors that have a latch that can be opened by the thumb inside.
Lever Pad
A Lever Pad door handle made of upvc operates differently from lever-type handles on doors. The handle can operate from a single spindle (inline) or independently from each side using two offset or inline spindles (pad). They are usually employed on UPVC double glazed doors and come in a variety of styles and finishes.
The handles have been tested to at least 200k cycles and are available in various finishes including White, Silver, Chrome & Gold. The finish is BS EN 1670 Grade 5 and is resistant to rust. This gives the handle an outstanding performance and long-lasting durability for its intended use.
All UPVC levers for handles include a spindle and screws and can be installed on the uPVC door. The 211mm backplate fixing centres permit a bigger size of handle which can often be a benefit in replacing a defective or worn multi point door lock mechanism. These handle levers have springs, which eliminate the issue of door handles that sag out of the horizontal position when not in use.
When choosing a replacement UPVC handle and spindle it is essential to match the dimensions of the PZ of the multipoint lock as well as the uPVC door. This measurement can also be called ‘handle centres’ or cylinder centres’. It is important to match the correct handles.
Once you have decided on the proper PZ size and the correct PZ size, you must ensure that the lever and push pads are shaped to match the American with Disabilities Act compliant handles that you need for your door. These are typically a square or round shape, with an internal lever and an external push pad.
The majority of the UPVC Lever Pads we offer are spring-loaded. This means they can be reverted to a horizontal position after not being used instead of hanging, and possibly securing to the frame. This stops draughts and cold air from getting into a house. The majority of UPVC lever pad handles come in both left and right handed models, allowing them to be installed on either side of doors.
Euro Cylinder
Cylinder locks are usually used on uPVC doors, but can also be used on other types of door. They work by using a key that unlock a cylinder that then reveals pins which can be aligned with those in the lock body and allow them to rotate the cam, thereby opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins, with internal and external doors generally needing different levels of security.
The selection of a cylinder is essential. It is based on the use that your doors and handles will receive. External doors, for example are required to be fitted with cylinders that are more secure while internal doors can be secured with the standard cylinder. Additionally, certain cylinders are available with extra features that can improve security even more, like anti-drill or anti-bump features.
To make sure that the euro cylinder is of the right size for your door, it must be measured accurately. The cylinder should be measured from the screw hole in the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn, if there is one. If you are unable measure it using the lock in a fixed position, you can remove it. It is essential to avoid having a cylindrical lock that extends beyond the handle or escutcheon. This can make it vulnerable to snapping lock attacks.
The design of most newer cylinders comes with anti-drilling as well as bump resistance features. They are designed to decrease the chance of attack by forcing cylinders to rotate in a different direction. This can help prevent attacks and protect your doors.
Certain cylinders are made to withstand snapping. This is a growing type of attack on cylinders, where the break line in the lock is targeted by a tool that is specially designed to snap off the front of the cylinder and allow the door to open. This is much quicker and more straightforward than gaining access through a multipoint lock and leaves no evidence of a burglary, which could hinder an insurance claim.
Spring Cassette
The spring cassette is positioned within the base of your door handle backplate, supplying a spring-loaded solution that returns the multipoint lock handles back to their normal position after use. The handles had no spring and would drop when the locking mechanism was removed. This simple part is the most effective way to solve this issue. It also prevents your upvc door from becoming stuck in either the closed or open position since they are difficult to close manually.
These spring cassettes were created to be used with a sprung multipoint lock. They will not fit handles that are not sprung and you’ll need to cut a hole into your backplate in order for them to fit. (Please look at the image for a technical diagram). They are a replacement for existing broken or missing cassettes in the backplate of the door handle for various brands of uPVC doors. They are fitted with an elongated square that accommodates an 8mm spindle and are sold as a set.
These spring cassettes are an excellent value-for-money solution to the issue of door handles that are sagging. These spring cassettes are simple to install and can extend the lifespan of your uPVC door.
