French Door Refrigerator With Ice Maker Review
Combining form and functionality, French-door refrigerators have elegant double doors that open to an expansive fridge on top and freezer drawer below. Special features like through-the-door dispensers, high-end ice machines and flex drawers that can be customized make them stand out from the crowd.
We consulted experts such as Ladina Schopf, an interior designer, architect, and founder of LS Projects, for tips on choosing the right model. We looked at the storage capacity, layout, and energy efficiency, among other factors.
GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
As its name suggests, GE’s Profile series is targeted at consumers who want to incorporate cutting-edge technologies into their kitchens. This fridge is loaded with these, from an inside-the-door Keurig K-cup coffee maker to a sophisticated water dispenser. But these flourishes don’t mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator’s freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. This fridge is expensive, so I expected better.
Other than that the fridge is a great choice. It has a huge freezer compartment that is not common for counter-depth French-door fridges. It also has a large capacity for frozen food compared to other models.
Inside the fridge, there are 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment is 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is about par for an French door refrigerator that costs this much. It has a decent-sized icemaker in the left door. But it’s not the most spacious one I’ve seen.
You can alter the shelves in both compartments to create a the perfect storage solution. The GE PYE22PYNFS’s interior design is stylish, too. Its LED lighting is a nice feature, and the in-door storage bins come with a third shelf that folds up beneath itself to make it possible to store items that are tall. The drawers include temperature controls that allow you to set them to Meat, Beverage, or Deli settings. They’re easy to open and close, although I found their plastic textured coatings to be a little rough on the fingers.
The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator comes with the all the features you’d expect from a fridge in this price range, including Wi-Fi and app support through GE’s SmartHQ software. The app is available on iOS and Android devices and allows you to control your refrigerator from anywhere across the globe. It also offers numerous options for customizing. It will also send you notifications when the door is unlocked as well as when the freezer or fridge must be defrosted and when the filter needs to be changed.
It is nice if GE PYE22PYNFS could offer Precise Fill which is a feature that is available in a few GE refrigerators that allow users to choose how many cups they want to disperse. The fridge displays a countdown timer to display how much water remains, but it’s not as useful as Precise Fill.
Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
The Bosch French-door Refrigerator is an impressive product. It’s designed to look like it’s a seamless component in your kitchen. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also has a vegetable compartment which keeps vegetables and fruits fresher for longer periods, and dual compressors to preserve food items. The ice maker is one of the best we’ve ever tested, and it produces a pyramid-shaped form of Ice with low use of water. This fridge is ideal for a single family or a kitchenette with an attractive design and top of the line food preservation.
This fridge was rated as the most efficient in our Refrigerators Test for a variety of reasons. The temperature of the freezer remained stable at a level that was just above 0 degrees Fahrenheit, and never moving by more than a fraction an inch. This is essential to preventing freezing burn. The fridge’s fridge section also performed well, reaching the desired temperature for initial set within an hour and keeping that temperature steady over the course of our testing.
Bosch is known for its high-end appliances which is why it’s no surprise that this counter depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance, with the option to connect to your home Wi-Fi network and Bosch’s Home Connect platform. The app allows you to monitor and control your refrigerator remotely from your smartphone or tablet. The fridge is a bit expensive, however it has great features and capabilities for the cost.
It’s important to understand the limitations of the fridge. It has a small space for shelves, so you’ll require some creativity when storing tall items. The shelves aren’t spillproof and can easily be damaged or stained by sharp items. The trays can be easily removed from the fridge. However, they must be cleaned regularly to prevent the growth of mold.
If you’re thinking of buying this refrigerator, make sure you look over our review of the French Door GE Appliances Refrigerator and the Bosch Bottom Freezer Refrigerator.
LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
The LG LRFLC2706S counter-depth fridge is a great option for those who need a lot of space in the space of a compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. The fridge is built with a standard French door layout, with two rows of shelving with spill-capture and a set of crisper drawers. The top shelf on the right can be folded down to give tall items more headroom. You’ll also find a full-width drawer for deli items and an internal water dispenser.
This refrigerator has a freezer with an ice maker, making it easy to move the frozen ice whenever you need it. The freezer has thoughtful design elements, too, like sliding drawers that can help you better organize the placement of items. It has a large bin to store frozen food items, and a separate container for ice.
Smart InstaView panel is a cool feature of the refrigerator. It lets you control the temperature of your fridge and lighting via your smartphone. It’s an easy way to keep track of your refrigerator and manage it, particularly when you’re away from home.
But while the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it does not necessarily improve the overall performance of the refrigerator. In fact, it took longer to defrost and chill food in this fridge than some of the others we test. This could be due to the bigger capacity.
The doors pose a problem with this fridge. They have handles that are sunken on the front that allow shorter people to easily pull them open from the bottom, however they’re not easy for taller people to pull shut without slamming them. It would have been much better if they had a front-mounted handles.
The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is an excellent option for those looking to combine the look of a French door refrigerator with a more efficient design. Its capacity is above average for counter-depth models and also cools evenly. It’s also a little cheaper than the top counter-depth refrigerator that has an ice maker, which helps make it a desirable choice.
Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
This Frigidaire French door refrigerator is a great choice when you’re looking for a French door fridge that doesn’t break the budget. french door refrigerator freezer ‘s a minimalist design that’s not as striking in appearance like some of the competitors but it does have enough features to make it a good pick. Its most important feature is the adjustable temperature drawer which helps keep food items such as meat and vegetables fresher for longer. It also has a large water dispenser and a decent ice maker that operates quickly.
The “Chill Drawer”, which sits above the two crisper bins, is another great feature. This drawer lets you redirect the majority of your fridge’s cooling power to this area, so that you can store foods which need extra attention. You can adjust the feature using the slider located on the on the outside of the drawer. It is also possible to use this to set a general cooling setting for the entire fridge, though I’ve found that adjusting the general settings tends produce better results than specific ones.
In my tests, the refrigerator’s temperatures were fairly constant across the different areas of the refrigerator. The temperatures in the top, bottom and middle of the refrigerator didn’t vary much from 38 degrees. This is a solid performance but isn’t quite at the top of our rankings.
This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. The fridge can be linked with a smart thermostat to gain more precise information on the internal temperature of your fridge.
The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF’s exterior is made of stainless steel with a grey body that has a “smudge-proof” finish. It is capable of preventing streaks and fingerprints from appearing, even compared to glossy stainless steel finishes on other appliances I’ve tried.
