3 Wheel Double Buggy
A great choice for parents who want to take their kids off-road the Fox 5 is a true all-terrain stroller. It comes with a suspension that is impressive and has large wheels that are puncture proof.
Our tester Claire was amazed by the clean packaging that was easy to open and found it to be one of the quickest and easiest pieces of baby equipment to put together. She took it out to explore some tough terrain and was thrilled with its performance.
Seats
Most 3 wheel double buggies start life as single pushchairs. However, some can convert to take the seat of a second person or carrycot with adapters (these are more commonly found in tandem buggies). You’ll also find that some models allow you to add a ride-on board for older children who want to walk but require a little help.
For a light-weight option that’s great for urban streets, look into the Joie Evalite Duo. It’s easy to maneuver and comes with a large basket with lots of storage. It can accommodate twins as young as birth and accommodate two car seats or a carrycot and seat. The seats must face towards the front and there is no space to store a shopping bag under the seat. You will require an extra sidepack.
Mountain Buggy Duet will be a good option for you If you like off-road driving. It’s a side by side with the smallest footprint of any double buggy available on the market. It’s much easier to get through narrow doors, on public transport and to climb up and over kerbs. The adjustable handlebar has a handbrake for added safety and security.
The UPPAbaby vista 2 double is another lightweight option that can be used by twins or a baby and toddler. The seats have multi-position reclining and UPF 50+ sunshades, and the canopy can be adjusted to keep the sun from your child’s eyes. The Vista 2 can be converted into triple by adding UPPAbaby’s ‘PiggyBack’ board for older children.

The phil&teds dots are great single buggys that are easily modified to take two (or three!) in multiple configurations. This is particularly useful if you have a baby in your car. The frame can be adapted to a wedgie, which permits optimal lie-flat positioning. Car seat adapters that fit many brands.
Suspension
The suspension of a double 3-wheel buggy will determine how easily you and your child/children can push it. It is essential to have a smooth ride, since babies feel every bump in the road. This is particularly the case if you’re driving on rough terrain such as grass or roads that aren’t paved. Certain models also have front wheels that lock to assist with maneuvering and getting over obstacles such as curbs.
Certain models have air-filled tyres which will provide a fantastic all-terrain adventure, but they could be susceptible to punctures, therefore, make sure you have spares in the trunk. Others have foam or gel tyres, designed to withstand bumps and are less susceptible to punctures, but you might find them a little stiff and uncomfortable for your child’s back if you decide to jog.
Our award-winning side-byside duet buggy comes with a superb suspension that can get you over any terrain comfortably and with ease making it the ideal buggy for city strolls. Upgrade the duet to our dual kit and you’ll be able to bring two children on the same footprint!
MFM reviewer Kath test-driven the Urban Glide 2 with her toddler and newborn and found it to be very capable on difficult terrain. “It navigated effortlessly across grass and bumpy sidewalks cobbles, dirt tracks and was easy to maneuver around corners and get up and down kerbs.” It’s even very pleasant to jog, with the 16″ rear wheels and lockable swivel front wheels giving you a stable running experience.” The Urban Glide 2 has a lot of features, including a large seat unit with a padded cover, hood with 50+ UV protection and easy-to-use and rechargeable lights.
Folding
A 3 wheel double buggy can fold pretty neatly to store it. There are models that fold flat and stand up (as if they were in a pushchair) as well as those that pop open to reveal a more umbrella-like fold that has the option of a brake operated by hand. In general, the more wheels a buggy comes with the more comfortable it will be to navigate over rough terrain. This is especially true if the wheels are bigger than the average size. You will have more stability and it is less likely that you will be forced to flip or tip your child.
The iCandy Wave is a popular option. It can be used in conjunction with an infant car seat from birth and then transformed to a double buggy when your child is older. It’s a comfortable and light-feeling model that makes it simple to push, and it comes with extra features, including a bumper bar and raincover.
Another alternative is the phil&teds sport that is a future-proof model since it’s great as a single buggy right from the start and can be adapted to take 2 (or even three!) in its small footprint. It is a clever three-wheel design with a sling for greater maneuverability and stability.
This is one of the most comfortable double buggies to jog in with your kids. It comes with a lockable front wheel which can help you maintain control over hilly or off-road terrain. It comes with a huge undercarriage, a movable handlebar, and soft suspension that gives you an enjoyable ride.
This is a lightweight, compact option that folds easily using just one hand. It’s perfect for traveling. It’s compatible with an extensive variety of infant car seats and comes with a handy pull-out undercarriage basket that can be used to stash items. It is a bit expensive however, it does have some standout features, such as its one-click folding and many extras, like bumper bars or raincovers.
Stores
Many are awed by the storage capacity of the triple wheeled double buggy. Certain models, such as the Roma Atlas, have a large basket and two zip pockets on the hood, where you can store your phone and keys. It’s also designed to handle slightly rough terrain, making it a great option for family walks and all-terrain walks.
Other models, such as the UPPAbaby Vista 2, offer plenty of space and the possibility of transporting twins or two toddlers and a child. (This is made possible by their ‘PiggyBack board’). It’s the smallest side-by-side double available and it has some impressive technology that includes games-changing LED lights on both sides of the frame to ensure security in low-light conditions.
The Joie Evalite Duo, a lightweight stroller that can hold twins from birth and is world-facing with a lie-flat seat it’s a different kind of stroller. Its clever frame expands to allow for an additional seat, yet it weighs only 11kg. This makes it simple to lift and move. It can be used with an infant car seat, a carrycot or both. This allows you to get the best of all worlds.
